This week we arrive at Luke 8:40-56, a passage with two significant narrative threads: Jairus' dying daughter and an unclean woman with a discharge of blood. Next week we will return to this same passage to examine the portion about Jairus and his daughter. This morning, however, Pastor Shawn draws our attention to the suffering woman with the discharge of blood -- a woman whose medical condition made her perpetually ceremonially unclean, outcast and cut off from the normal life of God's people. Under the law, the touch of such an unclean person rendered anyone she touched unclean as well; yet remarkably, when this woman touched Jesus she did not make him unclean, but rather he made her clean. Like this woman, we all in our natural state are unclean before God and cut off from fellowship with him; but in Jesus, and Jesus alone, we find the one who has sufficient power to cleanse us from our sins and iniquities.
