The Pharisees, always quick to cast accusations in Jesus' direction, on one occasion questioned why Jesus' disciples "eat and drink" instead of fasting. In response, Jesus pointed to himself as the central figure in redemptive history -- the New Adam -- and the joy that rightly accompanied his earthly ministry and presence with his disciples.
